Health & Safety Policy

1. Purpose

At Reddy Travel, we are committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, drivers, passengers, and members of the public who may be affected by our operations. This policy outlines our approach to maintaining a safe working environment and operating safe vehicles, with a focus on preventing accidents, injuries, and health risks.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees and drivers at Reddy Travel, including contractors and anyone involved in the operation or maintenance of our vehicles. It also ensures the safety of passengers and other road users.

 

3. Responsibilities

3.1. Management Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all vehicles are regularly maintained and inspected to meet road safety standards.

  • Provide drivers with the necessary training, information, and resources to carry out their duties safely.

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement control measures to reduce risks.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and review this policy regularly.

  • Ensure that all incidents, accidents, and near misses are reported, investigated, and acted upon to prevent reoccurrences.

3.2. Driver Responsibilities
  • Perform daily pre-shift vehicle checks, including tyres, lights, brakes, mirrors, and any other safety-critical components.

  • Drive responsibly and in accordance with the Highway Code, speed limits, and road traffic laws.

  • Ensure that passengers wear seat belts and are transported safely.

  • Report any vehicle defects, hazards, or health and safety concerns to management immediately.

  • Avoid driving when fatigued or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that may impair driving ability.

  • Follow emergency and breakdown procedures as outlined by Reddy Travel.

 

4. Vehicle Safety

  • Vehicle Inspections: All vehicles will be subject to regular maintenance and safety checks. Any defects or issues must be reported immediately, and the vehicle should not be used until repaired.

  • Daily Checks: Drivers must carry out daily checks on their vehicle before starting their shift, including checking for tyre pressure, fluid levels, lights, brakes, mirrors, and general roadworthiness.

  • Emergency Equipment: Each vehicle should carry basic safety equipment, including a first-aid kit, warning triangle, and fire extinguisher.

 

5. Driving Safety

  • Fitness to Drive: Drivers must be physically and mentally fit to drive. Any health conditions or fatigue that could impair driving should be reported to management.

  • Seat Belts: Drivers must ensure that all passengers wear seat belts during the journey.

  • Mobile Phone Use: Drivers are not permitted to use handheld mobile phones while driving. Hands-free devices may only be used if they do not distract the driver.

  • Rest Periods: Drivers should take regular breaks to avoid fatigue and comply with any legal requirements for working hours and rest periods.

 

6. Accident and Emergency Procedures

  • In the Event of an Accident:

    • Ensure the safety of all passengers and move them to a safe location, if possible.

    • Turn on hazard lights and use the warning triangle (if appropriate) to alert other road users.

    • Contact emergency services if there are injuries or major damage.

    • Report the accident to the office immediately.

  • Breakdown Procedure:

    • Move the vehicle to a safe location, if possible.

    • Notify the office of the breakdown and arrange for recovery services.

    • Keep passengers informed and assist them with alternative transportation if needed.

 

7. Passenger Safety

  • Passenger Comfort and Safety: Drivers are responsible for ensuring that passengers are transported safely and that the vehicle is clean and free of hazards.

  • Assisting Passengers: Drivers should assist passengers, especially those with disabilities or special needs, ensuring they can enter and exit the vehicle safely.

  • COVID-19 Measures: If necessary, maintain cleanliness and hygiene by sanitizing the vehicle regularly, providing hand sanitizer for passengers, and adhering to any government guidelines on social distancing or mask-wearing.

 

8. Reporting and Monitoring

  • Incident Reporting: All accidents, injuries, or dangerous occurrences must be reported to management as soon as possible. This ensures timely investigation and corrective action.

  • Monitoring and Review: Reddy Travel will regularly monitor compliance with this policy and review it annually or after any significant incident.

 

9. Review of Policy

This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed annually or whenever there are significant changes to operations, regulations, or safety practices.
